In the depths of Hell, Belial, son of Trigon, struck a pact with Hades and Lucifer in order to escape and returned several years later with an heir he deemed worthy: Merlin the Enchanter, Etrigan's brother-in-law, aimed to protect Camelot from Morgaine Le Fey. Merlin, on the other hand, seeks to prevent Le Fey from taking possession of the Book of Eternity. When used by Morgaine Le Fey to breach Camelot's defenses, the knight Jason Blood lost his life. Betrayed and poisoned by Morgaine, Blood is saved from death by Merlin, who curses him and binds the demon Etrigan to his soul until his betrayal is rectified. Forced to ally with the demon, the knight must then battle Morgaine Le Fey to restore his reputation in the eyes of King Arthur. They are aided by the Shining Knight (Sir Justin) and Nimue Inwudu, the future Madame Xanadu. Despite their combined efforts, they fail to prevent Morgaine from destroying Camelot and killing King Arthur, but they manage to imprison Morgaine in another dimension.
