(to be realistic, the only way to have this long story be onscreen with live actors is to make it a funded as heck miniseries)
As if fated by her birth name, Odysseus, undergoes a tremendous odyssey on her way back home from the Trojan War. The ten years at war, witnessing mass bloodshed and the desecration of cities, was only the beginning of Odysseus' suffering.
Meanwhile in her homeland of Ithaca, her husband Penelope is holding strong despite the urgings of his suitors to move on. What's also on Penelope's mind is ensuring his daughter, Telemachus, is safe as the palace is bombarded with suitors. Telemachus, though very loyal to her father, is also impatient herself to see through to her destiny and do her best to rule Ithaca.
On the gargantuan trek home to Ithaca via boat, Odysseus endures trials, challenges, horrors, sacrifices, making her less like the queen who'd left home and more like a selfish monster.
The only worry gnawing at her heart is whether or not Penelope would even show affection to the woman she becomes after all is said and done.
