In the animated fairy tale kingdom of Andalasia, the evil King Nemesis schemes to protect his claim to the throne, which he will lose once his stepdaughter, Princess Edythe, finds her true love and marries him. He enlists his loyal henchwoman Natasha to keep Edythe distracted. Gilbert, a young man, dreams of meeting a princess and experiencing a "happily ever after." Edythe hears Gilbert singing and sets off to find him. Natasha sets free a captured troll to kill Gilbert, but Edythe rescues him in time. When they meet, they instantly fall in love and plan to get married the following day. Disguised as an old man, Nemesis intercepts Gilbert on his way to the wedding and pushes him into a well, where he is magically transformed into a live action version of himself and transported to the manhole in New York City's Times Square.
