Former Marine Frank Castle (Bruce Willis) had his wife and children brutally murdered by a local mafia shortly after returning to the United States. Even after identifying the killers, they were never brought to justice, motivating him to become a vigilante who takes justice into his own hands. As his mission against organized crime in New York continues, Frank soon clashes with Ma Gnucci (Sigourney Weaver), the matriarch of a local mafia, while a trio of masked criminals join forces to eliminate Frank.
