Okay, so when Metal says he's the last surviving Metallix Sonic, he's not exactly... correct. Shard was a very early Metal prototype who was fixed and repaired by the Restoration, and thus has turned against Eggman, who abandoned him, and stays with the Restoration who showed him kindness. He's incredibly snarky and still shows off quite a bit; seems to be a pattern with the Sonic clones.
