Dr. Friedrich Ritter is a German philosopher, a follower of Friedrich Nietzsche and Arthur Schopenhauer. In 1929, rejecting the values of his country, he fled Germany with his wife Dora Strauch. They settled on Floreana Island in the Galapagos Archipelago. Friedrich wanted to find the meaning of life there by abandoning society and the civilized world. He then began writing a manifesto, while Dora decided to cure her multiple sclerosis through meditation. But their hard-won solitude was short-lived. Margret Wittmer, her husband Heinz, and their young son Harry arrived on the scene. Then a wealthy heiress nicknamed "the Baroness" arrived on the island with two men. Each then attempted to seize power and control the island.
