Cassandra quickly gained the approval of both Batman and Oracle (who was the original Batgirl) to become Batgirl after saving Commissioner Gordon's life. Come the turn of the century, much of her past was explored, and it was revealed that she had assassin roots, was mute, and killed a man at the age of eight.
