Aidan Turner (born 19 June 1983) is an Irish actor. He played the roles of Ross Poldark in the 2015–2019 BBC adaptation of The Poldark Novels by Winston Graham, Dante Gabriel Rossetti in Desperate Romantics, Ruairí McGowan in The Clinic, and John Mitchell in the supernatural drama series Being Human. He played Kíli in The Hobbit film series.

The story is set in 1925. Its protagonists are five friends, veterans of the Irish Civil War and the Irish War of Independence that preceded it. They are people who are greatly wronged by both wars. They lost their homes and lived on the streets, but that's not all. Brian was blinded, Rory lost a leg during the war, Rian's face is disfigured by horrific scars, Fionn lost half of his right arm, and can barely manage his left hand, while Oscar is paralyzed from the waist down. One day they get fed up with begging for money. They decide to form a musical group to sing and play traditional instruments, Irish folk songs. With the money they raised earlier, they buy the cheapest musical instruments then find a convenient place to play concerts. Soon they are joined by a young woman named Erin-raped and disfigured by a British soldier during the Irish Civil War. Dancing helps her cope with her trauma and dancing, for example, in the theater is her dream. Because of her looks, however, no one wants to hire her. Five musicians allow her to join them. Soon a talent hunter becomes interested in them when he notices how their popularity is growing and promises to send them on a tour to the US. Will it be worth trusting him?
