CBS officially cancelled Doctor Who on December 26th 1989 after a record low rating for the Christmas special. The decision had been rumored to have been made as far back as 1987. The last actor to portray the Doctor would not bring in the crowds. --- In the 90's FOX would acquire the rights to the series and they would begin to figure a way to reboot/relaunch the series. --- This newest Doctor would be one of the most high profile actors to take the role and he would debut on Fox in the Doctor Who movie that was meant to be a pilot for a new series. That series never happened.
