The more action oriented direction that the show had followed was losing popularity quickly and CBS wanted to get the doctor back to his kinder roots and make the show... fun! The doctor returns to space and travels with a number of companions. This is where the doctor meets his greatest companion Sarah Jane Smith. This is considered the golden age of the American Doctor Who series. Heralded as the perfect mix of comedy and sci-fi. Many cameos and guest appearances.
