He is a geeky reporter from Chicago who joins the expedition to write about Porter's knowledge on gorillas. Whenever Porter learns something remarkable, he says, "Write that down, Ned! Write that down!" He's more fascinated to take notes about Tarzan. He even teaches him how to write. In the end, his "report" is titled, "Tarzan of the Apes" with the subtitle, "By Edgar Rice Boroughs," which reveals that he is him.
