Gwendolyn grows up in the shadow of her beautiful and beloved sisters, Adelina, Hazel, and Primrose in the kingdom of Corona. Feeling plain and overlooked, Gwendolyn becomes obsessed with stories of the ancient forest and the magic hidden within. Driven by a desire to be special, she seeks out Elder Hildegard, a woman whispered to possess forbidden knowledge. Hildegard agrees to teach her, revealing that the forest holds a source of magic tied to life itself. Gwendolyn delves deeper into the dark arts, learning to manipulate the forest's energy. The magic begins to change her, granting her beauty and vitality but twisting her personality. She becomes increasingly secretive and isolated, pushing away her sisters and family. The Forest Spirit begins to manifest in her visions, promising her ultimate power if she fully embraces the darkness. Gwendolyn's transformation is complete. She is now Gothel, a being sustained by the forest's magic, eternally youthful and beautiful, but devoid of empathy. She confronts Hildegard, realizing the elder woman only sought to use her as a vessel for the Forest Spirit's influence. Gothel defeats Hildegard, claiming the forest's magic as her own. In the final scene, she overhears whispers in the town about the King and Queen of Corona expecting a child – a child with the same magical properties as the forest's flower, the same magic that now runs through her veins. Her eyes gleam with dark ambition as the credits roll.
