Robert Houston Eggers (born July 7, 1983) is an American filmmaker. After working for years as a production designer, he became known for writing and directing the period horror films The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019) and Nosferatu (2024), as well as co-writing and directing the Viking action film The Northman (2022). Noted for his attention to historical period detail, his films often incorporate elements of folklore and mythology.

In the plague-stricken steampunk city of Dunwall, royal bodyguard Corvo Attano is framed for the assassination of Empress Jessamine Kaldwin and the abduction of her daughter, Emily. Imprisoned and betrayed by those he once served, Corvo escapes with the help of a secret resistance known as the Loyalist Conspiracy. Guided by visions from the enigmatic Outsider, Corvo gains supernatural abilities and dons a mask to become an avenging shadow, hunting down the powerful conspirators behind the coup—each kill bringing him closer to unraveling the truth. As Corvo methodically dismantles the corrupt regime through stealth, cunning, and brutal precision, he’s forced to confront the consequences of his actions and the fine line between justice and vengeance. With Emily’s fate—and the soul of Dunwall—hanging in the balance, Corvo must choose what kind of legacy he will leave behind: one of mercy, or blood. Dishonored: Mask of Dunwall is a faithful adaptation of the acclaimed game, capturing its morally grey world, intricate power dynamics, and the haunting beauty of a city on the edge of collapse.
