He was incarcerated in federal prison from April 2013 to February 2014. During his imprisonment, he filed for bankruptcy amidst foreclosure proceedings for his large ranch residence.

As he is about to retire, John McClane had to save the day, once again: FBI agent Bowman needs his help to defeat a terrorist group called New Great Dawn who is responsible for different attacks which cost the lives of many innocents and among the victims, there are some politicians. And as if it was not enough, he had to protect William Garber, a young journalist who had dangerous pieces of information about the terrorists, his wife Sophia, and their son Leo. This time, however, John can count on the help of his ex-wife Holly, his children, Lucy and Jack, and also the help of Matt Farrell, Zeus Carver who fears that this time is going to be a disaster, and Hanzo Takagi, grandson of the late Joseph Takagi. But during his journey, he had the surprise to discover that one of his enemies is still alive and unfortunately for him, turns to be the one who can help him...
