Columbia was the oldest shuttle in the fleet, the second oldest orbiter ever built, and the first orbiter to fly in space. She was very straightforward, logical, wise and caring. As the fleet leader, she was responsible for her younger sisters and looks after and gives them advice as much as she can. She was passionate about understanding humans and relationship with Earth. Upon Challenger's death, she took full responsibility of leadership of the fleet. Columbia had a very warm and motherly presence, and she cared tremendously for her loved ones - being very protective of her crews. Columbia was also the first shuttle to have a female commander. However, Columbia met her tragic end in 2003.
