Renée Elise Goldsberry (born January 2, 1971) is an American actress, singer and songwriter, known for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway musical Hamilton, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Her other Broadway credits include Nettie Harris in the original Broadway cast of The Color Purple, Mimi Márquez in Rent, and Nala in The Lion King. She has portrayed many roles on television, including Geneva Pine on The Good Wife, and Evangeline Williamson on One Life to Live, for which she received two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series nominations.

Set in the aftermath of Descendants 3, when Audrey's defeat has led to further opening of the Isle of the Lost, Season 1 introduces Kylon Pridemore, 17, who has been raised on the Isle of the Lost by his grandparents Scar and Zira after his parents Kopa and Vitani were separated from him through a magical accident when he was an infant. He is part lion-shapeshifter (able to partially transform — glowing amber eyes, claws, enhanced speed — in the Descendants universe's magic-infused human world), part human in appearance, and entirely Isle-raised: sharp-tongued, street-smart, fiercely loyal to his small group, and carrying the enormous emotional weight of having been raised by two of the Disney villain world's most dramatically intense personalities. His closest friends are Claudine Frollo, 16 (daughter of Judge Claude Frollo) and Princess Joanna, 16 (daughter of Prince John of Sherwood). When Auradon Prep's new Isle inclusion program selects Kylon's group for enrollment, his journey to find his parents Kopa and Vitani — who have been living in Auradon's Pride Lands region since being separated from him — becomes the season's emotional engine, alongside the culture shock of Auradon, new friendships with the established VK group, and the revelation that someone is trying to re-seal the Isle barrier using ancient magic.
