Monet St. Croix is an eccentric powerhouse mutant who displays a diverse array of superpowers, being also known simply by the name M. Having fallen victim to her vampiric brother Emplate, Monet has also a second identity, that manifests as the detestable Penance.[12] Monet's convoluted story intertwined with the adventures of the students of the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, as she joined their class as part of Generation X.[13] After breaking free from Emplate's clutches, Monet was able to develop her potential as a promising mutant figure.[14]
Throughout the years, Monet has focused on providing her reliable assistance for mutantkind's benefit. For that purpose, she was a member of different mutant teams, including X-Corps,[15] X-Corporation,[16], X-Factor Investigations,[17], and the X-Men.[18] Unfortunately, at some point, she succumbed to Emplate's machinations once again and was ironically transformed into a version of her own aggressor,[19] but was liberated by her formers classmates from Generation X.[20]
In the mutant-exclusive nation of Krakoa, Monet, as usual, contributed for her race's best interests.[21] She also took a role as a C.E.O. for a revived iteration of X-Corporation, which worked for Krakoa's best political and economical interests.[22] Following the fall of Krakoa due to the actions of the anti-mutant organization Orchis, Monet was one of the few mutant survivors.[23] In order to avenge her fallen community, she joined the Avengers Unity Division to fight for mutantkind.[5]
