The Origin of the Terrifics: Common Criminal Patrick O'Brien, astronomer Prof. Kimiyo Hoshi, student Ronnie Raymond and his teacher, physicist Martin Stein, and police scientist Jim Parr were hired by a mysterious benefactor to take down immortal warlord Vandal Savage. The roster was originally confused as they had no similar traits and wondered as to why they were working together. Patrick’s flesh is super-stretchy, Kimiyo can control light, Ronnie is fused with Dr. Stein and can become a living nuclear bonfire with atomic abilities, and Jim's suit is magnestized metal. The crew soon discovered that Vandal created a device that would harness the energies of the sun. The four used their powers to defeat Savage and his army of goons and send him back to Kaznia with his tail between his legs. The team decided then and there to use their new powers to fight crime and thwart villains like Savage. They tried to join the Justice League, but were rebuffed, since the JL was not accepting new members at the time. Founding JL member Batman decided to make the four an auxiliary team at the permission of the benefactor, and gave them access to his secondary base at the top of the Ostrander Building in Metropolis for them to use as their headquarters. And thus begins the Terrifics.
