Jason is ostensibly an orphan (his birth mother is out there somewhere, but he doesn't know how to get in touch with her) and has been living on the streets for a few years. When we meet him he has been protecting a small group of street kids using the fighting skills he had picked up watching (insert DC Boxer here) and had been getting them all fed and relatively safe by using criminal skills that he had picked up from his father.
