In the beginning has an any means attitude towards journalism and a negative view of mentoring. Her not letting people get close to her is to keep it from hurting when they leave. She takes pity on Clark and takes him under her wing (when their stories are connected). She is resentful that investigative journalism is dying, but not against using the new formats to get her investigations out there, especially if they help to gloss over her bad spelling. She's also borderline manic. She was doing insane things for stories before she knew about Superman and only thick plot armor kept her alive this long. We hear stories as asides and all of them should have ended with her dead.
