Jimmy is a (paid) intern at The Daily Planet. He is working at the Planet in order to put himself through the photojournalism program at MetU. He is assigned to Lois Lane for training, but, when she immediately ignores him, he winds up tagging along on Clark's investigations. Clark has him doing background research on his stories and while doing this for him Jimmy comes across references to the hero that would be discovered to be Superman and pitched this story to Clark and Perry. Jimmy also has an eye for photography. He is constantly trying to make progress in his social (especially love) life, but keeps on undermining any progress he has made by rushing off to follow a Superman scoop.
