Sonic thought Eggman was done for. But he was wrong. Now he feels conflicted that Longclaw would have died in vain and that he didn't do enough to stop Robotnik from bringing Scourge here, who is almost as powerful as Shadow! Sonic then learns of Scourge's past and realizes the pain he has been through. Sure, it's not as much as his, or Shadow's, or Surge's pain, but pain is pain. Sonic will fight Scourge, but only because he doesn't have a choice now that Knuckles is absent.
