When the Master Emerald broke, her spirit came out of it, revealing that she was the one thing sealing Chaos. So, the Hooligans, Knuckles and the Chaotix inadvertently helped the release of Chaos during the events of Dawn of the Chaotix. TIkal helps Knuckles find the Master Emerald shards, if they ever came through the portal. Luckily, they did, and the Master Emerald was fixed at the end. But Tikal understood Knuckles' reasoning on why Knuckles left it broken, so she told Knuckles to put the Master Emerald back on the Angel Island shrine. For it already has guardians. Knuckles will know who they are in time.
