Shadow, ever since Neo has all the Chaos Emeralds, has thought to have been rendered useless against Neo. If Neo Metal Sonic can beat him in Chaos Control, he could destroy him in real time. That frightens Shadow. He never felt useless or weak in his life until he fought Neo. Aside from that, Shadow has known pain long enough to give Sonic comfort about Longclaw and Amy. He tries his best to be the older brother to Sonic that Longclaw saw him as.
