The entire reason Boom Shadow is evil in the Boom universe is not because he lost a loved one, or that he was put through a lot of pain through experimentation, but for what? Quoting him, he lost a "choo choo train". Yes. That's right. One day, he had one. The next day, he didn't. Then he was bent on destroying the world. Our Shadow thinks that is the dumbest reason he has ever heard in his life. And he's not the only one who thinks that.
