Shadow and GUN have a secret about Jackal Squad. He didn't kill them. Zero (at the time) thought he did. Robotnik intended it. But Shadow only knocked them out, and GUN came to arrest them. Shadow thought they died to his attacks, but fate kept them alive. So, Topaz and Rouge interrogated them and figured out about Infinite's past. Shadow learned of it, and had regretted telling Zero that he was weak and not worth it. Shadow had created Infinite, and the weight of shame and regret on his shoulders is too much even for an Ultimate Lifeform.
