In a flashback to Gerald Robotnik on the ARK, we see him writing in a journal his findings and research about an ancient piece of technology beyond his comprehension. In ancient texts, the people called them Gizoids. In the present, on the ARK, the Gizoid that Gerald drew in his journal lit up its eyes and broke out of its confinement tube like Shadow did in Sonic movie 3.
