Somewhere in an alternate universe, Sam Raimi declines Marvel’s offer of directing Spider-Man in favor of him doing Evil Dead 4. So Marvel decided to approach Requiem of a Dream director, Darren Aronofsky to direct the film. Darren accepts the offer, and does a darker version of the Spider-Man origin.
