With Wilson Fisk behind bars, Hell’s Kitchen has become a battlefield for rival criminal organizations fighting to control New York’s underworld. The most powerful of them is now Hammerhead, a ruthless crime boss who has taken advantage of Fisk’s absence to build his own empire. But Hammerhead’s rise also attracts the attention of Frank Castle, a brutal vigilante known as the Punisher, who intends to eliminate the new crime lord permanently. Daredevil encounters Punisher while investigating Hammerhead’s organization, but their first confrontation ends disastrously. Frank shoots Matt in the abdomen and escapes, forcing Daredevil to secretly seek medical treatment and recover before returning to the streets. When Matt eventually discovers that Punisher intends to assassinate Hammerhead, he intervenes just as Frank prepares to shoot him from a rooftop. Their second confrontation turns into a brutal fight through a nearby building, ending with Daredevil breaking Frank’s nose before Punisher manages to escape. Frank refuses to stop. During their third encounter, he manages to overpower Daredevil and chain him up while he goes after Hammerhead. Matt frees himself and races to stop him before he can deliver the killing blow. The two clash once again in a final battle inside a skyscraper, where Daredevil finally manages to stop Frank. Hammerhead is arrested, followed by Punisher, leaving Matt believing that the city’s streets may finally have a chance to recover. Mid-credit scene: In prison, Wilson Fisk receives an unexpected visitor. Their conversation is kept out of sight, but Fisk’s expression suggests that his release may be closer than anyone realizes. Post-credit scene: A guard checks Frank Castle’s cell, only to discover that it is completely empty. Elsewhere in the prison, a man dressed as a guard walks calmly through the corridors. He removes his cap, revealing Frank beneath the disguise, as he disappears into the night.
