The film is based on the Marvel Comics character Daredevil, it stars Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawson, Michael Caine, Vincent D'Onofrio and Morgan Freeman in supporting roles. The film reboots the Daredevil film series, telling the origin story of Matt Murdock from him becoming blind to the death of his father to his journey to become Daredevil to his relationship with Foggy and Karen and his fight to stop The Kingpin from plunging Hell's Kitchen into chaos. Expectations for Daredevil Begins ranged from moderate to low, which originated from the poor reception of Daredevil 2003 that was credited with stalling the Daredevil film series in 2003. After premiering in Tokyo on March 31, 2013, the film was released on April 10, 2013, It received highly positive reviews from critics, who deemed the film an improvement over the 2003 film, with praise aimed at the more mature tone and character-driven storyline, Cox's performance, musical score, direction, the deeper psychological focus and added layers of depth to the titular character's motives and the emotional weight compared to previous Daredevil films. It was followed by The Devil Of Hell's Kitchen (2014) and The Devil Of Hell's Kitchen Rises (2016), with the three films constituting The Daredevil Trilogy.
