Danny Fenton is an average 14-year-old living in Amity Park. Yet, his family is not normal. His 16-year-old sister, Jazz, acts too mature for her age. His parents are obsessed with ghosts (after experiencing hauntings as kids, and seeing Ghostbusters on their first date) and society has shunned them as lunatics. It's hard for him to make friends, much less ask out his crush. His only friends are Tucker Foley and Sam Manson. One night, Mr and Mrs Fenton build a portal that will make them access the world of the ghosts. At first, it doesn't work, but then Danny curiously peeks inside and accidentally presses a button. The machine finally turns on. The collider replicates the sample of ectoplasm and it ends up fusing with Danny's DNA, giving him the abilities of a ghost (walk through walls, turn invisible, and fly). His powers give a little more moxy, but he's still pretty geeky. Unfortunately, the portal has also allowed all kinds of ghosts to wander around the material plane, even nasty ones. One ghost is also a hunter (Skulker) going after rare lowlife ghost creatures, and he considers Danny to be a "one of a kind" addition to his collection.
