Deep in the Australian rainforest, the evil Dr. Cortex and his lackeys are planning to create an evil army of mutant animals, but his idea of making a bandicoot their general goes wrong when he becomes a brave, kind-hearted (and very stupid) hero instead. Narrowly escaping capture with his sister, Crash and Coco find aid from a mysterious floating mask guardian named Aku Aku, who agrees to help them on their quest to head back to the lab and free all the captured animals.
