the titular bandicoot escaping from the clutches of the evil scientist Dr. Neo Cortex, who abducted and mutated him to create an army for world domination. Guided by the mystical mask Aku Aku, Crash must journey through the Wumpa Islands to stop Cortex's plans and rescue his girlfriend, Tawna. Along the way, he defeats Cortex's henchmen and ultimately confronts and defeats the mad scientist himself.
