Amygdala first appeared in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #3 in 1992 and was created by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle. Aaron Helzinger was a large, short-tempered man who had various episodes of rage. In an attempt to solve this problem, a surgeon at Arkham Asylum removed his amygdala, which only made the problem worse.
