Metamorpho first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #57 in 1965 and was created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon. Rex Mason was a mercenary who was hired by Simon Stagg to find the ancient Orb of Ra. The Orb was taken by Stagg's caveman servant Java, who abandoned Mason, leaving him exposed to the light of an ancient meteor, which transformed him into Metamorpho, allowing him to change his limbs into different elemental substances.
