Captain Mar-Vell returns from the Negative Zone weakened by radiation and is captured by the Avengers, who help cure him while learning he secretly fathered a child with the Skrull princess Anelle. After fighting a Kree Sentry, the team uncovers Ronan the Accuser’s plan to devolve Earth into a prehistoric state, but the scheme collapses when Ronan is called away to defend the Kree homeworld. Public panic over Mar-Vell leads to political pressure on the Avengers, a fake disbanding of the team by Skrulls posing as classic Avengers, and the abduction of Mar-Vell, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch by Skrulls. The real Avengers regroup, battle Skrull agents, help the Inhumans reclaim Attilan, and then travel to Skrull space to rescue their teammates. There, Mar-Vell is forced to build a powerful device, but Rick Jones, empowered by the Kree Supreme Intelligence, unleashes the Destiny Force and leads a wave of legendary heroes to end the Kree–Skrull War.
