On the day of the 33rd Gommage, 32-year-old engineer Gustave bids farewell to his former lover, Sophie, who has turned 33 and perishes alongside everyone else of the same age. With only a year left to live, Gustave joins Expedition 33 in hopes of slaying the Paintress.
