Legendary Pictures Productions, LLC (doing business as Legendary Entertainment or simply Legendary) is an American film production and mass media company based in Burbank, California, founded by Thomas Tull in 2000. The company has collaborated with the likes of Warner Bros., Universal Pictures and Netflix. Since 2016, Legendary has been a subsidiary of the Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group. The studio's first film was Batman Begins on June 15, 2005 and its most recent film was Godzilla vs. Kong on March 31, 2021. Their next release will be Dune on October 22, 2021.
City of Darkness is a 2022 American science fiction action film written, co-produced, and directed by Denis Villeneuve. It stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Hiddleston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sharlto Copley, Alexa Davalos, Morgan Freeman, Amy Adams, Alexandra Shipp, and Michael Caine. In the film, a former scientist-turned-assassin named Dakota Houston sets out to give the world back its freedom, which was taken by the ruthless and corrupt world leader Armando Kraone. City of Darkness premiered in Los Angeles on February 29th, 2022, and was released on March 17th; it was a major box-office success, grossing $618 million worldwide. The film was met with widespread acclaim from critics, who praised its ambition, direction, musical score, action sequences, the dark tone, dramatic characters, visual effects, emotion, and Hathaway, Hiddleston, Abdul-Mateen, Copley, Davalos and Caine's performances, as well as for its groundbreaking storytelling. It is widely considered one of the greatest science fiction films of all time, as well as one of Villeneuve's finest works, and is considered to be his masterpiece. In 2027, City of Darkness was selected by the United States National Film Board as one of the top ten best films of 2022.
