Hal is the Quality Assurance Division Officer (QAO) of the "Black Lions" Navy fighter squadron (VF-213). A native of Falco, North Lakota, he initially enlisted as an Aviation Electrician's Mate (AE), later serving as a Helicopter Aircrewman/Flight Engineer (AW). He has served in a variety of carrier-based squadrons (both helicopters and jets) and was commissioned as a Warrant Officer after having been a Chief Aviation Electrician/Aircrewman (AEC).
