After an outlaw named Tom Chaney murders her father, a 14-year-old farm girl named Mattie Ross hires Rooster Cogburn, an alcoholic lawman, to help her find Chaney and avenge her father. They are not alone in the search; a Texas lawman named LaBoeuf is also pursuing Chaney for his own reasons. The three traverse hostile territory to deliver justice, Old West style.
