Kayla is a unique friend of Barbie as she is the first to be multi-ethnic.[1] She changed in appearance often and was intended to be relatable to children of many races. Usually she is brown skinned with dark red or Auburn hair. Sometimes she appears more South Asian, sometimes she has orange hair for an Irish type look. She was constantly evolving, but her most featured hair color was dark red. Her first doll appeared circa 2002.
