Michael is found in the encampment of sane mutants in the Main Boiler Room of the Basement. Before the Visitor arrived, Michael worked at the local post office, and wrote poetry in his spare time. He was mutated when he went back for his dog while the survivors were fleeing. Although he no longer seems able to communicate, the other survivors take care of him.
