After the Echidna explains why he's here, Vector explains to Knuckles how he and Espio got onto the island in a flashback starting when Vector was at Vanilla's house, going to when Vector and Espio were leaving, and when they have an argument on how Vector's been acting greedily, thinking more about money to pay bills rather than money to buy food to survive. They were trying to find Robotnik because they have reason to believe he's at the new island. But then a lightning storm had separated them, and the rest is history. It was then Knuckles realized they all came for the same thing: Eggman.
