She is known for her role as executive producer Dana Whitaker on the ABC television show Sports Night (1998—2000), which earned her an Golden Globe Award nomination, and as hectic supermom Lynette Scavo on the ABC show Desperate Housewives (2004—present), which has earned her an Emmy Award. In 2005, her critically acclaimed role as a trans woman in the independent film Transamerica earned her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination. She has also starred in films such as Reversal of Fortune, The Spanish Prisoner, Magnolia, Path to War, Georgia Rule and Phoebe in Wonderland. A biopic about Barack Hussein Obama's campaign for President of the United States. The film begins on February 10, 2007, Barrack Obama, U.S. Senator from Illinois, announces his candidacy for President of the United States in front of the Old State Capitol building in Springfield. After months of debating, the field finally narrowed to a duel between Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton. On June 7, 2008, Clinton ended her campaign and endorsed Obama. On August 23, Obama announced his selection of Delaware Senator Joe Biden as his vice presidential running mate. John McCain was nominated as the Republican candidate, and he selected Sarah Palin as his running mate. The two candidates engaged in three presidential debates in September and October 2008. On November 4, Obama won the presidency with 365 electoral votes to 173 received by McCain. The film ends on January 20, 2009, as Obama is officially inaugurated as the President.
