In a gritty, visceral reality where the collective fears of humanity manifest into terrifying creatures known as "Devils," life is cheap and terror is a constant companion. Denji, a desperate and impoverished young man, lives on the fringes of society, working off his late father’s insurmountable debt to the yakuza by hunting minor devils alongside his only friend—a small, chainsaw-wielding dog devil named Pochita. When a brutal betrayal leaves Denji discarded and dying, he makes a final, life-saving pact with his companion, merging their souls to be reborn as a hybrid entity of blood and machinery: the Chainsaw Man. Drafted into the ruthless ranks of Public Safety Devil Hunters, Denji is thrust into a world of high-stakes government operations, lethal underworld politics, and grotesque supernatural threats. Guided by the enigmatic and chillingly pragmatic Makima, Denji finds himself navigating a team of broken, volatile, and morally gray hunters, all while chasing the simple, human desires he was denied in his past life. As he fights through a landscape drenched in blood and absurdity, he begins to uncover the terrifying truth behind his own existence and the monstrous secrets governing the world around him. Blending hyper-kinetic, cinematic action with a bleak, deadpan exploration of human longing, this story deconstructs the traditional hero’s journey, questioning the true price of "living the dream" in a world where the line between savior and slaughterer is severed by a single pull of a cord.
