The year is 1583 and England is at the peak of the Renaissance period. Beneath the age of exploration and scientific innovations, however, lies a sea of intrigue, plotting, seduction, espionage, and murder. Members of the Royal Court find themselves facing the cresting waves of political feuds and struggles that have been amassing over the years. King Frederick Wyndham, who had withdrawn from the public eye for years, abruptly reappeared only to give stark proof to the rumors of his growing madness. With mounting evidence of the royal family's complicity in hiding this truth from the Privy Council and the public, the royal family of Wyndham was torn to pieces - some fleeing England, others arrested, and still others dead at the hands of enemies both seen and unseen. A tumultuous Regency ended on Christmas Eve, 1582, with the dramatic death of the former Regent and the King, in the throes of his madness. Now a new king has been crowned - Nathaniel Wyndham, the Bastard of Berkshire. Will he manage to restore the Wyndham dynasty to glory, or fall to the clawing hands of their many enemies?
