After being contacted and told by Woo what happened to Monica, Captain Marvel flies to the Oscorp Lab and reunites with Monica, learning what has happened on Earth since the events of the Avengers 1. She also learns of the Nova Helmet choosing Richard, surprised the helmet would choose a high school student. The Nova Corps soldiers that survived the crash are outraged by this, the only one supporting Rider being Rhomann Dey. This, mixed with his insecurity, makes Rider reluctant to wield the Nova title at first and plans to relinquish the helmet to Nova Prime on Xandar, who Captain Marvel and the Nova Corps planned to give the helmet to originally.
