After helping Captain Mar-Vell escape Hala, Yon-Rogg returns to Earth with his unit to erase all evidence of Mar-Vell's existence. But when Mar-Vell's location is traced to Skrullos, Yon-Rogg secretly decides to find his former trainee. Knowing the Kree will kill Carol Danvers if she remains behind, he takes her with him. On Skrullos, Mar-Vell encounters Talos, once his enemy, and A'Lars, a former Kree scientist who was branded a traitor for refusing to accept the Empire's corruption. Together, they reveal the truth behind Kree history and teach Mar-Vell to question everything he once believed. As he trains among the Skrulls, he grows closer to Talos and falls in love with his daughter, Princess Anelle. A'Lars eventually crafts Mar-Vell a new red-and-blue suit, symbolizing his rejection of the Kree and the man he once was, while teaching him a mysterious form of cosmic awareness. Meanwhile, the Kree-Skrull war escalates. Ronan the Accuser claims Mar-Vell has been captured and leads a mission to Skrullos, secretly intending to kill him before he can expose the Empire's corruption. During the journey, Yon-Rogg and Carol encounter strange cosmic forces before Ronan intercepts them. Yon-Rogg hides Carol in an escape pod and sends her to Skrullos before rejoining Ronan's forces. Ronan sends Yon-Rogg and his unit onto Skrullos, revealing he never intended to join them. The Kree massacre the Skrulls. As the planet falls, Mar-Vell sends Anelle and Carol toward Earth and confronts Yon-Rogg. With tears in his eyes, Yon-Rogg apologizes and raises his weapon, but Mar-Vell's cosmic power overwhelms him without harming him, forcing him back to Ronan's ship. Mar-Vell collapses beside the bodies of Talos and A'Lars, sobbing. On the ship, Ronan asks Yon-Rogg if he remains loyal to the Kree. Though devastated, Yon-Rogg pledges himself to the Empire. Meanwhile, Carol and Anelle reach Earth. The journey has changed Carol in ways she cannot yet understand—and Anelle carries Mar-Vell's child.
