Ichigo, who has lost his powers, is approached by Kugo Ginjo and the Xcution, a group of Fullbringers who can manipulate souls in objects. Ichigo learns about Fullbring and trains to become one, but he later discovers that Ginjo and the Xcution have ulterior motives. Rukia eventually restores Ichigo's Shinigami powers, and Ichigo and the Gotei 13 confront the Xcution and Ginjo, revealing Ginjo's past as the first Substitute Shinigami.
