Empress Kōjun, born Princess Nagako of Kuni, was a member of the Imperial House of Japan, the wife of Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito) and the mother of Emperor Emeritus Akihito. She was empress consort of Japan from 25 December 1926 until her husband's death on 7 January 1989, making her the longest-serving empress consort in Japanese history. Her posthumous name is Kōjun, which means "fragrant purity".
